HYDERABAD: Balladeer Gadar said on Friday that there was a threat to his life as he was receiving threatening calls from some persons and organisations.

Speaking to reporters here, he said that he received a threat letter in the name of Budala Srinivas alias Agastha Reddy threatening him not to participate in the programmes of ‘Telangana Dhoom-Dhaam’.Gadar said he was receiving threat calls from Warangal and Nizamabad districts and the complaints to police in this regard went in vain.

He alleged that the police had failed to trace the persons who made the calls. He also criticised the police for their failure to nab the persons who made attempts on his life in 1997.‘‘The police closed the case stating my involvement in various organisations,’’ he alleged. He sought the chief minister to order a re-investigation of the case and for appointment of a commission to take his views.

Gadar said that Maoist leader Vadakapu Chandramouly had mentioned in his diary that there was a threat to Gadar’s life. The diary was seized by the police and they should disclose its contents, he demanded.

In support of him, Telangana Sangharshana Samithi and the student organisations of SC, ST, BC and Minority also warned the government of an agitation if anything happens to Gadar.
