HYDERABAD : The Communist Party of India has decided to inspect ongoing work on different irrigation projects from January 6 to 10 to verify allegations levelled by other Opposition parties about large-scale irregularities and corruption.
The CPI State secretariat, which discussed the progress of irrigation projects at its meeting here on Monday, expressed concern over delay in completion of irrigation projects due to various reasons, including charges of corruption, party State secretary K. Narayana said.
He welcomed the High Court’s order suspending the stay granted by National Environmental Appellate Authority on Polavaram project and said completion of the project would enable utilisation of over 2,000 tmc ft of water that was going waste into the sea.
The party had decided to intensify its land struggle from January 20 wherein the cadre would occupy lands in selected areas and would not vacate them till the government sanctioned pattas to poor. “The government should give pattas or put us in jail,” he said.
The CPI warned the A. P. State Road Transport Corporation against calling for tenders for hiring private buses and said the party cadre would not allow the hired buses to ply. The government should take the responsibility for law and order problems, if any, in the process, he said. It opposed the proposal to collect professional tax from Singareni workers claiming the move has political overtones.
