Andhracafe.com- HYDERABAD : The Lok Satta Party has urged Governor N.D.Tiwari to intervene with the Government and ensure that steps are taken to restrict liquor consumption in the State. They said massive campaign should be launched to dissuade people from drinking and favoured opening of de-addiction centres.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor on Friday, the party wanted the Government to restrict the number of licensed liquor shops to not more than 1,000 in the State.
LSP general secretary D.V.V.S Varma and Mahila Satta president E.Nagamani were among those met the governor. They also wanted all the liquor shops on the highways, close to schools and places of worships to be shut down.
The leaders suggested ban on consumption of liquor in public places and ban unauthorised liquor outlets and enforce strict vigil on illicit distillation. They said that local bodies should be entrusted the task of enforcement.
